Backup Before It’s Too Late

I talk to many people in a given month who start a conversation like this:

[in a panicked tone] I came in this morning and i had a flashing cursor on my screen, so i restarted my machine. The desktop loaded fine, but then all of a sudden it turned off. When i turned the machine back on, all i saw was a black screen and i hear a clicking sound. What can i do?

My first question is: Do you perform regular backups? And the answer i usually get is “No!” Backups are like insurance. When you are in dire need of them…you can’t get them. So do yourself a favor. If you keep critical data on your hard drive, please back it up. Your strategy can be simple. Burn critical files to a re-writeable drive at the end of every week. This is a good method, but it’s best to keep off-site backups in case of a natural disaster. …And, if you are like me, doing something like this manually will never last. That’s why i am using a program called synback.

Syncback is an impressive free tool. You can perform various backup ques. You can perform ftp backups as well. The program is very flexible and easy to use. I would highly recommend it. You can find the free version here.
