What’s running in startup?

Some programs that start up when windows launches cause problems. How can you check to see what is loading on startup? Glad you asked. Click on the start button and then click “Run.” In the run box, type “msconfig.” This will bring up a box. Choose the “startup” tab. This will show you what applications are launching on startup. Be careful what you uncheck. You may just stop something that you need. As always, don’t be afraid to email me with a question. Happy computing.

Oh yeah, if you are running windows 2000 – it doesn’t have msconfig. But you can always download msconfig from here, place it on your desktop, and double click to run it.

I have just written a cool (and free) utility to remove the disabled items from MSConfig.

It is called MSConfig Cleanup and can be found here: http://www.get-in-control.com/msconfig-cleanup/

Thanks for visiting Boris! Yeah, msconfig does get really bloated with tons of old references…good utility.
