CommWarrior.A Cell Phone Virus

Samsung Cell PhoneThe first mobile phone virus utilizing the Mobile Messaging System (MMS), has been discovered. It has been found circulating on Symbian Series 60 phones. When the virus is opened, the virus sends itself, using MMS, to everyone on the user’s address book. Cell phone users receive messages, such as “3DGame from me. it is FREE!,” in an effort to lure the user to open the attachment. CommWarrior.A can also spread to users utilizing bluetooth technology. F-Secure has posted pictures of the virus on cell phones. The virus emulates various email viruses. CommWarrior.A doesn’t do any damage. It seems more like a proof of concept attempt. But one thing is sure: it won’t be long before cell phone users are a prime target for virus writers.

    I see a burgeoning market for cell-phone anti-virus software…

I hear tales of viruses being transmitted from cell phones via Bluetooth to car nav systems now, too.
