Accenture is trying to get RFID into license plates commercially in the states. They are testing their concept on their own parking needs. The plates have a 100% accuracy rate when scanned at speeds under 31mph and within 3 feet to 20 yards. They are currently keeping track of employees parking fees using the systems. If license plates are removed from the car, they shatter. Another company, Hills Numberplates ltd., is trying their product in the UK. They cite potential uses like:
* access control
* automated tolling
* asset tracking
* traffic flow monitoring
* vehicle crime and non compliance
Of course, many people are going to be crying privacy rights and security on this one.
