Can You Hear Me Now?

Army LogoThe amount of research and ingenuity that goes into building the military killing machine is staggering. Two non-lethal technologies aim to deceive in strategic ways. Microwave voice effects have been talked about since World War II. Radar technicians often referred to strange side effects when operating stations. Technicians commented that they could hear the microwave pulses and that they commonly got pins and needles. Since that time, scientists have been experimenting with numerous ways to both project voices and receive speech patterns using microwaves. The Air Force is testing a device that would create an acoustic field around the target and deliver voices locally. The technology could incite psychological harm as no one around the subject would hear the voice. Another interesting facet of the technology would be the combination of this technology with voice morphing. George Papcun, a scientist with the Los Alamos National Laboratry in New Mexico, can create, in near real time, voice reproductions of amazing authenticity. Combine these two technologies and you have a powerful psychological, military weapon. They could be used to address enemy combatants and redirect troop movements. The troops would hear their superior’s voice, even though the voice had been synthesized. The US Army PsyOps is actively seeking Psychological Operation Specialists.

It’s just scary to me what can be done already, and to imagine the ‘voice’ psychological warfare is scarier. I guess it’s better than sending young people in to die, but I wish we could find a peaceful way to solve problems. Call me naive. :) Nice blog you have here.

This technology is possible. It has been used on me for quite a long time. Interesting hey Paul?
