CyberkineticsYou are looking at research by a company called Cyberkinetics. This is cutting edge technology in the area thought controlled devices. Many people have tried to do what Cyberkinetics is currently pursuing. The US military tried thought controlled military devices for many years without success. The system utilizes the braingate platform. This platform uses an implanted microelectrode array consisting of a 4 mm by 4 mm base that contains 100 silicon spikes that are 1.0 or 1.5 mm long. The array is implanted onto the surface of the brain. …Clinical trials that are currently running are implanting the array onto the place where limb movement is controlled. They will then use this to translate it to cursor or mouse control on a device control system. Cyberkinetics microelectrode arrayObviously, this would be a huge advancement if it succeeds. And it would bring great freedom to individuals suffering from severe body impairments.

But what about future developments on this front. Can you foresee a future where this kind of technology would be used in the other direction? What about laying one of these on memory centers where fake memories are inputted? Obviously Cyberkinetics is not in the business of doing this - I am just looking ahead. Technology can be used in good and bad ways - almost like anything else.
