IBIS Websearch Toolbar Removal

By admin | Jan 19, 2006

This is yet another example of some great adware. And it can be a real pain to uninstall. The following files are associated with this adware:

common.dll
IExploreSkins.exe
PIB.exe
QDow_AS2.dll
setupex.exe
TBPS.exe
toolbar.dll
WSG.exe
WSup.exe
WToolsA.exe
WToolsB.dll
WToolsS.exe
btiein.dll
websearch.exe

The fastest, easiest way to uninstall this piece is to download the Symantec Removal Tool. After the scan, run a complete virus check. If you don’t have virus protection, check the online scanners on the right sidebar. If that doesn’t work for you or you just prefer painful learning, here are the manual instructions:

Be aware that this software also install a nice thing called the Web Security Guard. It looks like this.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Remove Websearch Toolbar and WinTools. During the uninstallation, you will be presented with a bunch of verifications on the uninstall. Check them carefully to make sure you are actually uninstalling it. It is easy to click through and actually cancel the uninstallation. Do a search on your C Drive for toolbar.dll. Delete it. You may also want to check for the other files listed above. If you find them, delete them. Also, Click on My Computer, Go to the C Drive, and look in the Program Files. Delete a Toolbar folder if you find it. Look for a Common Files folder and then a subdirectory called WinTools. If you find it, delete it. WebSearch should now be gone! Do a dance. Oh yeah, you may have to reset your browser’s search and home pages.
