Steganography, not to be confused with stenography, is the art/science of writing hidden messages so that only the original writer or intended recipient can read it. Camera Shy is a tool that allows you to do this with gif files. People hide text in gif files on web pages. This tool allows them to open the page, enter the key, and view the text. You can also hide text in your own gifs, using this utitily.

There are other utilities that allow steg in different ways. MP3 Steg allows you to embed stuff in mp3 files. Other tools include: snow, blind side, image hide, etc. Why would someone want to do this? Well, if you are in a country, say, like China and you want a covert way to communicate - this would work well. You could post a seemingly inoccuous website and carry on conversations or disseminate information through all the pictures. I’m sure there are other uses, but that’s the first that comes to mind.
