Updmgr.exe Removal

By admin | Mar 30, 2006

Updmgr.exe is spyware. It is put out by KeenValue software. The software can be found at c:\program files\common files\updmgr\ . You have to love misleading program directory names. Anyway, you can try stopping the updmgr.exe process by firing up task manager and ending the process. To do this, right click on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen (you know the bar that runs on the bottom that contains the start button, the time, and quick start icons). When the task manager comes up, make sure you are in the processes tab (located at the top). Find updmgr.exe in the list of running processes, select it and hit the “end process” button in the lower right. It may or may not end the process. If it doesn’t, you will need to start in safe mode.

Completely turn off your computer. Hit the start button and immediately start hitting the F8 key every second, slowly and methodically. Select safe mode on the startup menu. Ok, that’s how to start in safe mode if you can’t manually end the updmgr process.

Now, you want to right click on the folder that i mentioned above (c:\program files\common files\updmgr\) and delete it. Now, click on the start button in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Select “Run” and type “regedit” . This will start the registry editor. Drill down the list of stuff to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /Software /Microsoft/ Windows/ CurrentVersion /Run . You will see “updmgr” listed there. Delete it. Reboot.
