gaim_login.pngPortable Apps is a cool site that allows you to take your apps on the road. If you’re not wanting the headache of putting an operating system on a USB stick (tho i would highly recommend it!), then this will work well for you. There are loads of stuff to choose from. Why would you want to do this? Well, for instance, you may want the ability to take firefox - and more importantly your bookmarks, wherever you go. And what if you want to take your email everywhere? Well, it’s got that too. Here is a brief list of the possible apps you could put on your USB stick, ipod, or external hard drive:

  • Upcoming media players, video editors, and audio editors
  • XAmpp - Apache, mysql, php, and phpmyadmin all in one
  • NVU web editor
  • Arcade games, card games, and emulators
  • Firefox
  • Gaim - instant messaging
  • Thunderbird - email
  • Filezilla - FTP
  • RSS readers
  • telnet and ssh coming soon
  • Openoffice
  • Mac on a stick - OS 7 on your USB! (also, see Minivmac)
