stryker_APS.jpgOne of the main threats in Iraq has to be the RPG, IED’s are probably primary. General Dynamics recently validated the results of Trophy, developed in Israel by RAFAEL, including IMI and IAI/ELTA. Trophy is an active defense system (ADS) which can kill RPG’s. It consists of threat detection, launch, and intercept systems. Radars placed in strategic locations on the vehicle’s platform create a dome of protection.

The protection is hemispheric, meaning that it includes aerial threats as well. Trophy also works against multiple incoming threats simultaneously. This system works well in close quarter combat situations like urban warfare. Casualties to infrantry by-standers is also minimal. General Dynamics’ successful tests of the Trophy system means lights are green for mass production of the system.

Check out the video of Trophy.
