Samsung Q1-SSD.jpgWell, we knew that production on this would start soon. Samsung has launched versions in Korea only. But you know that others will start jumping on the band wagon. Samsung is taking their NAND flash memory technology that powers the iPod and making it power PC’s. The 32 gig SSD (solid state disk) will mean a boatload of advantages that have mobile enthusiasts drooling.

You may remember a similar post that I did a while ago on Atom Chip’s SG111 and SG220, which utilized flash memory with storage values in the 250GB range. Obviously, those laptops weren’t ready (unfortunately) for production. Samsung’s laptop will be great for mobile warriors. They can take twice the shock that traditional hard drives can. That’s a bonus for clumsy folks who have constant laptop mishaps.

But you will really start seeing the differences on the performance level. These flash units read 300% faster (53MB/s) and write 150% faster (28MB/s). That will translate into boot times 25-50% faster – hooray! Oh, and remember the noise that accompanies most laptops – the Samsung models operate in virtual silence. Another really cool feature is that you can view media in an instant on mode. Show a slideshow, a video, or watch TV – right away. By the way, both models have an integrated TV tuner. Here’s the spec run down:
