SocialText Collaboration

socialtext screenshot.pngSocialText is an enterprise wiki. If you’re new to wikis, you have a wrinkled brow right now because you’re confused. Here’s how SocialText describes wikis:

“A wiki is a group-editable website. Wikis are composed of web pages you can write on, enabling fast and easy collaboration.

The word “wiki” comes from a Hawaiian word for ‘quick’. Wikis were invented about 10 years ago by Socialtext advisor and friend Ward Cunningham. Wikis became the collaboration tool of choice because they are simple and flexible.”

Because of the ease of wikis, it makes collaboration a lot less painful. Instead of sending mass emails, having outdated intranets, or having a centralized physical meeting space, why not wiki and do all of that and more? You can post files, control access, search, categorize, create blogs, email post, receive email update notifications, track revisions, etc. I am hoping to test out the software more fully in the near future. You can apply for a personal wiki for up to five users.
