Rounding out my battery recall news is Apple. Apple had a previous battery recall for Powerbook G4’s. That may be good news for you because your battery might not hold charge anymore and you can get a new, free one. Woohoo. The issue is that the battery can overheat, just like in the previous Dell Battery Recall and HP Compaq battery recalls I posted about. The Powerbook G4 batteries in question carry the model number A1045 and serial numbers that begin with HQ404, HQ405, HQ406, HQ407 or HQ408. But there has just been issued a newer recall that includes iBook batteries as well.
| Computer model | Battery model number |
Battery serial number range |
| 12-inch iBook G4 | A1061 | HQ441 – HQ507 |
| 12-inch PowerBook G4 | A1079 | 3X446 – 3X510 |
| 15-inch PowerBook G4 | A1078 | 3X446 – 3X509 |
…The batteries affected include the 12 inch iBook G4 with battery model number A1061 and serial numbers running numerically from HQ441 to HQ507. The 12 inch Powerbook G4’s with battery model number A1079 with serial numbers running from 3X446 to 3X510. And finally, 15 inch Powerbook G4’s with battery model number A1078 and serial numbers from 3X446 to 3X509. You can find that information on the bottom of the batteries.
You can be issued a new battery by going to Apple’s battery replacement page. Or you can call (800) 275-2273.

I am seeing problem with my laptop, but support folks say, though my laptop is G4, 12″ powerbook bought in 2004 Dec, the serial number doesn’t match with the list of approved serial numbers for recall.
What do I do? I have been getting burnt while working on this laptop, and it has also caused burnt marks on my work table.
Any help?
