Slappa Velocity BackPack Review

By admin | Aug 23, 2006

slappa-backpack-front.jpgLet me just say thank you to the good folks at Slappa who allowed me to review this backpack. Let me start at the beginning. I received the review unit promptly from Slappa and immediately got to work. I have to admit, when I unpacked the unit I was under whelmed. But this backpack is packed with surprises.

The exterior is waterproof, durable, and easy to clean. It’s made of “scuba-prene,” a lightweight, waterproof material similar to neoprene. And that’s exactly what you want from an exterior. It’s unassuming, but works like a charm. The front has a rugged covering and the back features the slappa logo that is a nice padding feature. It has a nice carry handle on the top for easy moving. Now, let’s get on with some of the compartments because there are a ton.

The front zips down to reveal a nice, big compartment for your quick access items. When you move onto the second compartment you are greeted by that super-soft interior. Slappa pays attention to detail. It has a couple of nice pockets for PDA’s, etc. And you can stash your accessories, batteries, etc in the nice zippered pocket in the back. Move onto the middle compartment and you’re greeted with huge storage. It’s suitable for whatever you can stuff in there. Geez, you could shove your sister in there and haul her around! And then you move to the back compartment. This has a great, padded compartment for your laptop. This particular model is for 13-15″ laptops. But slappa also makes one for 17″ models as well. Laptops fit comfortably and travel without a scratch. But wait - there’s more! You get a freakin’ cool pocket in the very back. How crazy is that? Nothing like sneaking a few cold ones into the library. ;) And don’t forget the two side compartments that could nicely store your cellphone(s). Sweet.
Here is the rundown on the backpack’s features:

  • Pro-grade rainproof scuba-prene with molded rubber exo-skeleton provides structural integrity
  • Super-comfort shoulder straps
  • SLAPPA padded back support
  • 4 separate compartments with plush jersey inner lining
  • Super padded main pocket for laptop and papers
  • mid pocket with inner compartments for electronics and accessories
  • e.z. reach front pocket
  • Rear pocket features STAY COOL inner lining to store cold goods
  • Removable phone/MP3 case with stainless steel belt clip
  • Industrial Strength Zippers, feature locking Zipper Heads and Zipper Caps for tear protection
  • 3 individual combination locks for Zipper Heads
  • 3D Molded Rubber Luggage I.D. tag
  • Backpack dimensions (lying flat): 13″ (w), 17.25″(h), 2.75″(d)
  • Inner laptop sleeve dimensions: 11.25” (w), 15.5” (h), 2” (d)
  • Weight: 3 lbs
  • Ideal for laptops up to 16”

And here’s the verdict. This is a great backpack. One of the things Slappa told me beforehand is that they thought I would like their product. They said that people will love their quality. Bingo. That couldn’t be more true. Slappa makes quality stuff. I love the waterproof exterior. I love the soft compartments. I laughed out loud when I saw the cold storage in the back. And I was impressed that it came with locks for every compartment. This is a fabulous product that will sell well.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
