gaim-logo.pngI use Gaim and love it. Gaim is a multi-messaging platform that works for Windows, Mac OS X, and *nix platforms. It is compatible with “AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks.” This allows you to connect to one or all of the networks simultaneously. If you have friends across networks, Gaim is a great way to keep in touch.

As I said, I use Gaim to connect to those networks and keep in touch with folks across networks. Recently, however, Gaim started crashing on me. I would fire it up and suddenly I would be met with an error and bam, Gaim would close. I thought that it might be a fluke, so I tried opening it again. Boom, errored out again. After a little bit of testing, I found out that it would only die when connecting to the MSN network. If I connected to the other networks, it would work just fine. Here’s a nice, easy solution for you. Upgrade to Gaim 2.0, beta 3.1.

With this update I still cannot connect and my cpu is maxed out at 100%. Is anyone else seeing this? One caveat, is that I connect through a socks5 proxy to the MSN server.
