A few years ago I was on a camping trip. We had planned the whole experience down to the last detail. The surroundings were beautiful, the food was incredible, and the company was awesome. It was early morning when we finally went to bed the first night. Once people started nodding off, I knew I was in trouble. A couple of the guys snored really loud. I’m a light sleeper. Needless to say, now I bring ear plugs with me when I camp with these guys. If you share a bed with a snorer, I really feel for you. But Alise Ojay wants to help alleviate that problem.
…Alise Ojay has been involved with singing and drama for a long time. A while ago, a friend was describing his snoring problem to her. She immediately thought that it could be the result of a “soft pallet.” This is where the muscles on the back of the throat become soft. This can result in vibration and consequently snoring. So she decided to look into whether singing exercises would help. Well, five years later, Ojay was working with Exeter University on trials for the treatment and authoring a complete programme (nod nod to my UK readers). The result is Singing for Snorers. This isn’t for everyone. This programme usually works for people who started snoring in the middle of their life. It can’t help in cases where the individual is snoring because of weight, polyps, or some other ailment.
