Well, I’ve been playing around with Vista Business Edition and it’s okay. I don’t love it. I will have to write up a full review sometime soon. One of the things that is noticeably missing is the parental control feature. This might seem intuitive, but a lot of smaller businesses would love to have a way to filter content from their employees. Well, I happened upon Windows Live Family Safety protection - and it might be just what you are looking for.
Yes, you could use the built in functionality in IE7. But the administration of the Family Safety protection is easier to use. The downside is that it ropes everyone into getting a live id (you can use a hotmail id or msn id if you have it). But it has some nice reporting features that would allow you to monitor internet usage and filter pretty well. And, if a user is blocked from accessing a legitmate site, they can request permission to use it. You can access the request from any web browser and give them access. Pretty neat. It might not work for all situations, but it’s a decent free tool.
