I regularly advise folks on new PC purchases. In today’s market, computers have become very modular. The edge then comes to the vendor who can provide great support and service. Dell, as a company, has always done well. Sometimes I have been irked by their computer design and lines. But they know how to run a business - I can’t deny that. But Dell seems to be bending over backwards nowadays to please customers. And that is making their customers smile and competing vendors green with envy.
I have to admit that I was shocked to hear that Dell is offering systems with XP as an option again! And this is at the behest of Dell users. So, they went off and offered a few systems that have XP as an option. But where did Dell get this bizarre idea? Just how are they interfacing with customers? They launched IdeaStorm a couple of months ago. And this site is a round table with Dell. In fact, they also published results of a recent survey they did about expanding their Linux offering on their systems. The results were pretty eye opening:
100,000 people took the survey. So it sounds like Dell will offer expanded Linux options on their machines in the near future. There they go again, listening to their customers. But Dell also has offering their systems without any OS pre installed. Again, give customers what they want.
I admit, I personally haven’t bought a Dell machine in years, but this type of customer-centric thinking makes me want to buy one - just for the heck of it. Kudos to Dell.
