Did you get this message when installing Adobe Acrobat 8 Reader on a Vista machine? Yep, I have talked to other people that have. Actually, the full message is: “The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder.” There are two possible solutions to this problem.
You can either run the Adobe setup program in compatibility mode, or you can turn the User Account Control back on. Save yourself some time and just turn the User Account Control back on. To do that, go to “Start,” “Control Panel,” and “User Accounts.” Then select “Turn User Account Control on or off.” Turn it back on and restart your machine. Now, rerun the installation. You can always turn the User Account Control off again if you want. “You are coming to a sad realization….”

Why would you recommend turning UAC back on, rebooting, installing and then (if you want), turning UAC back off? It’s a lot faster (and easier) to use the compatibility mode, as you suggested.
You don’t have to run Acrobat Reader in compatibility mode, just the installer. Doing that takes literally five clicks and then you can run the installer fine.
Oh, and my apologies for not saying this in my first comment: THANK YOU for this post. I typed in the error message the installer was giving me into Google and got your page as the first link. You solved my problem in less than five minutes. My earlier question aside, thank you for posting this information!
omahogan, thanx for stopping by! I had some issues with compatibility mode on some machines - that’s why I suggested you just turn UAC back on temporarily. good to know it worked for you.
Thank you so much for the tip. I second omahogan’s thanks, your website was the very first google result. It was one of those times when technology clicked, and things worked like they’re supposed to! Thanks again.
