Dell XPS 720 H2C Gaming Machine

xps-720-h2c.jpgDell (NAS: Dell) is pushing the gaming desktop tradition provided by previous XPS desktops, like the 710. The XPS 720 H2C provides delightful overclocking for gaming enthusiasts. Now, some tweakers will hate the fact that it is overclocked out of the box. “The XPS 720 H2C Edition pushes the limits of extreme performance with Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) memory technology. The system ships with 800MHz Corsair® DOMINATORTM EPP memory modules (factory overclocked to 1066MHz) combined with Intel® multi-core processors (factory overclocked up to bin+3). Additionally, BIOS switches allow users to manipulate the speed of the front-side bus and chipset through the Windows® operating system and third-party applications such as nVIDIA® nTune.”

And the XPS 720 H2C might as well be called the pimp my computer experience. Users have control of LightFXTM, which includes three customizable light zones (back, front/top, front/bottom). These light zones include eight intensity levels and sixteen possible colors. And users can create custom lighting effects like strobing, cross fades, and chasing. Now anyone can go into severe seizures anytime they want.

The 720’s core is powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor QX6700 at 2.66GHz (factory overclocked to 3.46GHz) combined with nVIDIA nForce 680i SLi MCP. 2GB of 800MHz Corsair DOMINATOR DDR2 memory featuring EPP (factory overclocked to 1066MHz) should keep most gamers happy for at least, oh, a week. And let’s not forget the SLI-enabled dual 768MB nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards. And they don’t leave you hanging on the hard drive side either with Dual 160GBsc SATA 3GB/s 10,000RPM hard drives that support RAID 0, 1 0+1 and 5. Gamers will definitely be awaiting a flash alternative to those puppies, but I guess it will work for now. Here are the rest of the specs:

Dell is providing an adrenaline rushing computer for gaming enthusiasts. Would gamers be better and happier to build their own? Good question. But for those who want an overclocked behemoth (tho a tad noisy one) that will give a great gaming experience, the XPS 720 H2C will work well. Although the starting price for this puppy is $5,999. Egads.

awesome, now I can run notepad faster than ever before… Seriously though, I’m not much of a gamer anymore but to see how fast it renders video (i.e. making home movies) would be really interesting.
