The latest and greatest incarnation of the Internet’s best browser is available: Firefox 3 Alpha 5. While this update won’t bring anything new to the table, Mike Connor, director of Firefox development at Mozilla says this latest version “will feel like organic growth.” So you can be expecting a few new and refreshing changes, like a new Bookmark tool, named ‘Places’. ‘Places’ archives your history and bookmarks in a SQLite database for easy accessing and greater stability. I know I’ve had times where I’m trying to remember that one website I visited yesterday; well, it seems like Places will help with those situations, and even will work with existing applications such as Foxmark and del.icio.us.
Other than ‘Places’ however, don’t expect anything groundbreaking. Improved password management and better add-on management is also included, and it even looks like they’re planning on including a revamped theme for Firefox 3. For a full list of new features, check out the Product Requirements Document on the Firefox Wiki.
“Before you go nab Alpha 5, be advised that it is an Alpha, so you should back up your bookmarks and other stuff you would mind losing in case of a conflict or failure.“
