Ok, nobody panic, but it seems like Apple is going to be rolling out a special deal for college students in the next few days. As you can see on the Apple.com front page, there’s a little button in the lower right (on my screen) that shows a promotion for a special Mac deal: Every college student that buys a Mac gets a free iPod Nano, as long as you by before September 16th. Surely, with the summer starting and everyone racing to make sure they’re ready for college, Apple is providing an excellent opportunity to sell both some Macs and some iPods.
Personally, I’ve never been a Mac guy. In fact, I cursed Apple when I was surprised by the presence of a MacBook at my high school’s graduation instead of a Windows-based laptop. Unfortunately, the MacBook couldn’t play the .WMV movie I was asked to make for graduation, and I ended up almost punting the thing. All malice aside, I love my iPod mini and if I wasn’t so gosh-dang hesitant about reteaching myself the workings of a computer or Apple was offering a bit larger iPod, I’d purchase a Mac in no time; seeing as I’m off to college myself.
Now, when I first saw the deal yesterday, the Apple store was down; most likely to update their deals and to provide links to the rebate itself. As of right now, 1:08 A.M., the Apple store is back online and most likely has been for some time. No need to rush; the rebate period ends on September 16th, leaving plenty of time to visit a nearby Apple store or find a friend that will let you test drive a Mac if you’re new to them. Just try not to scratch your new iPod.
