The internet is increasingly drawing the eyes and pocketbooks of consumers from TV. Yes, there are still hits and staples out there. My word, the loyalty of rabid Heroes fans is incredible. It just goes to show you that if you bring an artistic and well scripted show together, people will show their gratitude. Joost is startup which is trying to move that kind of media over to the dynamic world of the internet. But is that shoving old wine into new wineskins?
That kind of change is really inevitable. Once people got exposed to two-way interaction with content on the internet, there really was no going back. It will be interesting to see just how traditional programming evolves. So, how do you help accelerate bridging that gap? Well, one way is to bring on someone like Mike Volpi, former Cisco executive, to be your new CEO. Mike should be able to plot a course that brings big media companies to the table. At least, I know that’s what Joost is hoping.
I keep thinking to myself, where is all this trickle down in technology leading? Shouldn’t YouTube and the like be just the starting point for the average consumer to produce excellent media? Or is it just how it’s always been - the fat cats rule the roost?
