Enjoying my visually “eye popping” picture there? A few, really cool, “Yummy Links” have been popping up recently, so I’m holding an end-of-the-month link party! It’s also the last full month I will have of vacation before I start college. EEK! Anyways, with everything from a series at Engadget on “What To Do When the RIAA Comes Calling…” to a web-based utility that allows you to convert movies so you can watch them on your phone, we’ve got some exciting pieces here. Of course, in the lineup we have “Wikirage“, what is hot on Wikipedia right now, and we even have a blog oriented towards “ethical hacking” over at…wait for it…Microsoft!
So, enough with the appetizing and onto the goods!
Know What To Do When The RIAA Comes Calling… PaulTech has always had a bad taste in it’s mouth when the RIAA comes around. From bullying consumers without proper respect for the justice system to presenting so-called witnesses that can be disproved with some simple networking homework, they just seem incompetent sometimes. Even still, it’s irresponsible to say that they solely target innocent individuals. Either way, you should do your part as a citizen, ‘know your rights‘ and check out Engadget’s little series on the matter.
hackers @ microsoft Can you believe it? While “the opinions are not of Microsoft”, I can say it’s pretty neat to see a start-up blog going on about the valiant side of the hacking universe; something that Paul and I are both pretty passionate about. The whole blog is only a few days old, with a singular post announcing the arrival of “something different from Microsoft”. I’m pretty eager about this one; whatever your issues are with Microsoft, that a trench coder by the name of ‘techjunkie’ from inside the company can come out and speak about things like security and ethical hacking is somewhat refreshing. Sure to be a future PTech favorite here…
Wikirage
This little gem is “what’s hot on Wikipedia“. Now, what Wikipedia and I consider “Hot” may differ, as Wikirage tracks the most edits per unique editor for each article. On the site, they say that it’s a good way to track trendy things like popular people, the latest fads, or hot topics like video games or sports. For example, BioShock is the number 1 edited article for the past week, with over 500 edits for August 24th to 31st alone! Definitely a good place to go to catch up with “hip” kids, whether they’re your children or your friends.
mofonow
Watch any video any way you want. For free, well if you have it for free that is. Well, that’s how they present this little doodad, anyways. What mofonow does is render any video or image usable on mobile phones. Like that picture? Make it your background. Found that silly video they use on the iPhone commercial? Convert it with this. mofonow can take a video or picture straight from your hard drive or use a YouTube or flickr link to convert whatever you want, so get to viewin’!
Whew! I’m all partied out! Surely there is enough action in there to satisfy you, the PTechie, for a while now; at least until I get around to planning another one of these block party smashes. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to see if I can add some new background pictures to my phone!
