Recently I acquired an iPod Nano. Yep, I handed over my Cowon iAudio U2 to my wife. If you’ve read my review of the iAudio U2, you will know that I love that thing. It’s small, pumps out the sound, and still has great battery life after years of heavy use. But I wanted to get something different. At least, it was different for me. But I didn’t want a mechanical drive. No way. It had to be flash memory based - so the Nano fit the bill. One of the things that Apple nails is the intuitive use of devices. I picked it up and figured the functionality out as I went. That’s how it is with Apple products. Hats off Apple. And, as I’ve said before, they just make cool products. This ain’t your daddy’s electronics compay. But I digress.
I took a road trip recently and went to see the group Muse. Can I just say, off the record, that I love Muse. They just freakin’ rock. They are not afraid to experiment, make strong statements, and go crazy. But I wanted to have all my music with me. Specifically, I need that Muse library at my disposal for me and my brother. So, I went out and nabbed an iTrip Pocket. This thing makes you wonder if you are getting your money’s worth - because it is so small and light. But, don’t be fooled.
Plug this sucker in and it’s go time. Immediately, it comes up to the preset station. The iTrip Pocket has three preset buttons. You can just push one and hold to make that button a preset. Push the arrow buttons to move through the frequency spectrum. It’s that easy. The volume is set at the radio. There is no two way volume adjustment - and that’s a good thing. I only had transmitter hiss and fuss a few times. And that was when the radio preachers were getting going in the lower frequencies. So, I simply changed it and off we went. And I’ve used this thing for a couple of weeks now in my own car. I love it. It’s easy to use and it works. If you are in a crowded frequency are, like a big city, then you will probably have problems with this device. A little thing called the FCC keeps theseFM transmitters from emitting too strong. And that’s a good thing for your local radio stations. I like this device a lot. I give it four stars out of five. It’s only hindrance is something that the FCC enforces, and I understand why. So, though I wish it had more power, I’m glad it doesn’t. Make sense?
Here are ye ole’ specs:
