I am a fan of Altec Lansing. I have an old, and I’m talking like 8 years, speakers system that still really kicks out the sound. It has a sub and 2 satellite speakers and just sounds great. I’ve used it indoors and outdoors for backyard movies projected onto the house. It’s a great unit. But the main drawback on the unit is the size. It can be a pain having all that clutter. Well, Altec Lansing is aiming to take care of the clutter by providing a below-monitor, all-in-one unit to deliver sound.
The F3020 Soundbar sits snugly under your monitor. It is awe uninspiring and is aimed at delivering a simple, easy to use speaker system. This thing doesn’t want to draw attention to itself. The back of the device features power and audio in. That’s it. The side has a headphone and Aux port. That’s a nice little touch to simply plug an ipod in. And the front sports a large speaker and a volume knob that has light-up accents. Again, simplicity is the aim here. All in all, the sound is very unimpressive. There are not controls on the unit for bass, treble, etc. But that’s the aim of the unit. So, if you want okay sound in a very clutter free, simple device - by all means go get it. But, if you are wanting a serious computer sound system, this isn’t for you. Hey, what do you expect for $99?
