Google OpenSocial Wants Social Networking

The Google Monolith is on the move, as always.  Now they are putting their stake in the ground in the social networking movement.   OpenSocial, available on Thursday, will feature three main API’s to help coders incorporate code into social networks.  Those API’s are:

  • Profile Information (user data)
  • Friends Information (social graph)
  • Activities (things that happen, News Feed type stuff)

It sounds like Google is trying to allow for the most used functionality to give API’s for.  This will allows coders an easy way into social networks.  Until now, coders have faced an uphill battle trying to learn new markup so that they could grab a piece of the social networking pie.  That time seems to be soon arriving.
