IBM Recycling Silicon

IBM is starting to see some good profits from initiating a “green” tactic.  Eric White has come up with a way to recover silicon wafer material for resale to the burgeoning solar panel industry.  IBM used to sand blast the wafers and would thoroughly destroy the wafers for any type of reuse.

Now, since IBM has been using this process, they have saved over $500,000 at their Burlinton, Vermont site.  They plan on expanding use of the method to their New York site where they expect savings to top $1.5 million.  That’s not a bad paycheck for deciding to be a little greener.  By the way, I think Eric White deserves a pay increase.
