Jack Bauer, besides getting out of jail, has an uncanny way of finding small nuclear devices.  Gotta love 24.  Anyway, one of the real issues for our country’s national security is the possibility of a small nuke being detonated on our soil.  Traditional X-Ray is difficult to implement and unsafe if done on large scale, repeatedly.  However, scientists have come across a nice, naturally occurring way to check for those bad boys.

Muons stream down from space at a rate of 10,000 per yar per minute.  That gives scientists a nice, large stream to work with.  The key is that atomic particles bend the muons’ path larger than normal.  That gives scientists a way to test for atomic devices on a larger scale.  And, the scanner could be integrated into ordinary structures.  This would keep scanning points covert.
