Intel announced a new line of low power consumptive processors that they have officially dupped “Atom.” The tiny 25mm chips are designed to power new mobile internet devices that will be rolling out this year.

The chips, previously codenamed Silverthorne and Diamondville, will be produce with Intel’s 45nm production process. The chips run in the 0.6-2.5 thermal design power watt range with speeds up to 1.8GHZ. As a comparison, the Core Duo processor has a thermal design power range in the 35 watt range.

“This is our smallest processor built with the world’s smallest transistors,” said Intel Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Sean Maloney. “This small wonder is a fundamental new shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience on these new devices. We believe it will unleash new innovation across the industry.”
