The Netgear WNDR3300 Wireless N router is a pretty interesting, cheap alternative in the wireless N space. It sports 8 micro antennas for superior coverage and supports simultaneous 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ connections for wireless G and wireless N respectively. That way you can get 54Mbps and 300Mbps simultaneously. Though the real world probably wouldn’t give you that. Needless to say, it’s a solid alternative.
The unit itself is sleek except for the annoying led lights on the wireless protected setup button. You can, however, disable them pretty easily. The router sports the standard 4 wired connections. The web interface is okay. I did like the fact that there is an autosearch for updated firmware. It found an update and asked to install it. That’s a great feature. I haven’t had much luck with the wireless protected setup. I think it’s because of the way I named the router. That aside, the signal strength and speed has been great. I will note that if you name the G and N AP with the same name, your card (even though it has dual band support) will default to the 2.4 GHZ range. At least, mine did. Make each band’s ID unique and it should take care of the issue.
