Well, the DLink DWA-552 performed very poorly in my setup.  You can look over my DLink DWA-552 review.  So, I decided to go back and get the NETGEAR WN311T RangeMax Next Wireless-N PCI.  It has external antenna connection cables that mount to a nice looking antenna box.  Let’s see how it faired.

Here are the features:

  • Complies with draft 802.11n standards, backward compatible with 802.11b/g
  • Steady-Stream connection for improved signal strength and range; ideal for VoIP, file sharing and streaming HD video simultaneously
  • Connects a desktop to your wireless network with data transfer rates up to 270 Mbps

  • MIMO smart antenna technology delivers increased speed, coverage and reliability, providing improved range and faster speeds for downloading music, sharing photos and gaming
  • Auto detecting and auto sensing
  • Preset internal antenna ensures improved coverage and bandwidth
  • Advanced security features include 64/128-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access-Pre-Shared Key)
  • SmartWizard simplifies setup by automatically detecting and configuring your system

Set up was simple again.  Just plug the thing into a PCI slot, attach the antenna cables, and set up the top box.  the top box is a nice looking white box.  It fits into my desktop well.  The software was very easy to set up.  Signal picked up right away with 300 mbps.  The strength was excellent from the get go.  I’ve been using for a while now and no problems and gripes.  Finally, one that does what it ought.
