Pandora Personal Music Radio

pandora-logo1.jpgI honestly can’t believe I haven’t heard of this sooner.  Sometimes you come across something and say, “Am I the last person on the planet to know about this.”  Well, Pandora is like that.

Pandora is your own radio station.  It is built upon work done by the Music Genome Project.  The Music Genome Project was founded by Will Glaser, Jon Kraft, and Tim Westergren.  It was created to make an analysis of music.  This was a technological and musical endeavor.  They used over 400 attributes in a complex algorithm to associate different kinds of music, artists, and genres.

So, Pandora is built upon that algorithm.  You input some artists you like and build your own custom radio station.  It’s pretty good at giving you some new artists that you will generally like.  You can give a suggestion a thumbs down to nix it.  Or you can tell it that you like what you hear.  Now, it doesn’t seem to have the kind of freshness that WOXY brings, but it’s pretty good.  Give them both a whirl.  Btw, they have an iphone app in the store and it plays really well on the iPhone 3G.
