In a striking and important win for Net Neutrality, the FCC has just issued a judgment against Comcast.  If you have no idea on the background, you really should get involved.  This current action would only have been possible with the efforts of many folks who are just like you and me.

The Savetheinternet blog stated, “In a landmark decision, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein approved a bipartisan “enforcement order” that would require Comcast to stop blocking and publicly disclose its methods for manipulating Internet traffic.”

And there will be many more battles in the future.  What’s at stake is an incredible medium that gives a forum for the voices of the common person.  As soon as the internet starts to be dictated by power brokers, our lives will be degraded.  Savetheinternet says it well, stating, “They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video — while slowing down or blocking their competitors.

These companies have a new vision for the Internet. Instead of an even playing field, they want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services — or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls — and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road”

What makes the internet so powerful, compelling, and useful is the very open nature of it.  Don’t let power brokers change that.
