If you are looking for something to do on Labor Day, or want to go to Diggerland, or want to jet over to Dubai’s Dinosaur Theme Park - then this post is not for you! Nah, we have something much more tame. It’s a plain old beach, well, sort of. And if you can’t be at the beach, I guess the best thing is to build it! Dubbed as the world’s largest indoor waterpark, the “Ocean Dome,” in Miyazaki, Japan is an architectural wonder. It measures 300 meters long, 100 meters wide, and 38 meters high. It can accomodate 10,000 people.
Inside the park guests can spoil themselves on restaurants, stores, and other delectables. Of course, the park also sports a giant volcano that spews fire every hour.
Of course, the only bizarre thing is that the ocean is in view from the Ocean Dome. But, temperature is not so forgiving and the Ocean Dome is kept at a nice 30 degrees Celsius all year round.
Lazy rivers and side pools decorate the gigantic, 140 meter main beach. 13,500 tons of fresh water brings enjoyment to patrons, complete with sand. And yes, the blue sky background is incredibly hokey.
But the fun wouldn’t be complete without 3.5 meter, surfable waves. The waves are created by gigantic water pumps. Professional surfboarders (isn’t that an oxymoron) entertain and wow the crowd. The Japanese resort unfortunately closed as interest was nominal. Maybe they ought to build one far away from a beach next time!
