I like Cowon audio players.  They have really nice sounds and are rock solid.  I’ve had mine for probably 5 years now.  The Cowon S9 brings a really slick looking personal media player (PMP) to the market soon.  Will it be a hit or a dud?

Well, the first thing I noticed on the spec list was the Amoled display.  That’s active matrix organic light emitting diode.  The wonderful thing about an amoled is that it doesn’t require backlighting.  What you get is a striking color display with low power consumption, unlimited viewing angle, and super fast response time.  So, you get a 16 million color display with 480×272 resolution.  The screen is also capacitive touch with gesture capability.  The power source for the S9 is a dual core 500MHZ processor.  Man, get in the fast lane!

The S9 will sport a digital TV tuner (will be interesting to see how this is handled outside Korean standards), bluetooth, FM radio, TV out, voice recorder, full UCI, flash display, USB 2, dynamic dictionary, and accelerometer.  It also hosts support for Cowon’s various music tools like BBE, EQ, and JetEffect.  This little gem sports a 40 hour battery life, thanks in large part to its Amoled display.

As for pricing - the jury is still out.
