I’m always harping on backups and such. Something I haven’t talked a lot about is getting an APC battery backup. The BR1500LCD is a good, mid range model. So, why would you need something like this?
If you are in an area with bad power, an APC battery backup is a must. I say APC because I have had great luck with them. Whether those types of power problems are lower or higher voltages, this model will help protect your equipment.
You will get around 12 minutes of backup time at half load (400 watts) and around 3 minutes at full load (800 watts). Now, if you experience an extended power outage, this thing can do a graceful shutdown of your computer with the enclosed software. Why is that important? Well, sudden power outages can cause some serious disk and operating system problems. They are type of things that can keep your computer from booting. No one wants that. Think of it as a type of insurance that is just part of the cost of running a computer. Trust me, it will save you a lot of $, energy, and heartache in the long run.
It also includes a neat little lcd readout for wattage information. And the price is around $200.
