Eneloop. Not, not antelope or envelope. Yeah, I did a double take when I say Sanyo’s new Eneloop batteries on the shelf. It’s an odd name for such a great rechargeable battery.
So, what’s so special about these NiMH batteries? Don’t I have these laying around already? Well, yes and no. See these are special batteries. They have really long charge lives. That means they have characteristics like typical alkaline batteries. In fact, they are pre charged when at the store. That means you can get them and use them right away. Okay, so far so good.
They are also highly reusable and high capactiy. That means that you will get 1,000 charges out of these bad boys before replacing them. And they provide power for long periods of time. That will come in handy when you are taking tons of digital photos. And they also do well in low temperature environments for all you snow bunnies out there. It looks like the eneloop is rated at around 2,000 mAh. Now, there are higher rated batteries out there, but they don’t have these characteristics. That makes me seriously consider buying them next time.
Especially when you can pick up a 4 pack with charger for like $20.
