As I look into my crystal ball, I see many networked storage units coming our way. Part of the problem is that we have so much media that now needs some place to sit. So, instead of storing it on 3 computers in your house, consolidate it with a central media server. The next task would be back up, but that’s for another time. Acer comes along with another entry into this space. Pretty nice and pretty nice price.
The Acer Aspire Easystore server comes with 1TB of storage, but can hold up to 7TB. The drives are hot swappable. So, failed drives can be changed without restarts. That will allow you to upgrade as necessary. It also comes with Windows Home Server. This also allows centralized backups of your network computers. It also comes with an Atom processor and 2GB of DDR2 memory. The thing is small at 7x8x7 and also features 5 USB ports, 1 eSata port, and gigabit ethernet. The USB ports allow one touch backups to the device. Folks can also access the server while on the road. That includes file transfers and viewing. Not bad for $399.
