Dell announced a “wireless” charging laptop called the Dell Latitude Z. The problem with that claim is that it really is not a wireless charging system. It is really like those fancy powered toothbrushes. So, imagine an easy to dock power charging system, not a wireless one.

The Dell Latitude Z utilizes coils and magnetic inductive charging. This means that the Latitude Z can simply sit in the dock and charge as if it were plugged in. You kind of wonder why this kind of thing took so long. Beyond that, this laptop is a very robust, yet small and light piece of hardware. It’s around 1/2 an inch thick and only weighs 4.5 pounds. You can judge the thickness from the above picture.
A even better feature of the Latitude Z is that you can connect your peripherals wirelessly. That’s because the dock utilizes an ultra wide band feature that will virtually hook them to the laptop. Nice feature. The laptop also features a preboot function for browsing and email. You would think this thin and light laptop is skimpy on the hardware, but it isn’t. The screen is a 1600×900 (not 1080p!) screen. It runs on a 1.4GHZ Core 2 Duo Intel processor, 2 GB of ram, and can have up to 2 256GB hard drives. Now, this laptop also incorporates a separate ARM processor for the preboot functions. I’m not sure this is worth the added functionality. Also, the price on this puppy is $1999. I find that interesting considering the world seems to be moving toward smaller and cheaper devices.
