Well, that is the million dollar question, isn’t it?  I have seen a lot of accusation and rumor going around, but I have yet to see any substantiating evidence.

Private Encrypted Chat

By | Security | No Comments

You may not know this, but when you use instant messenger, you are essentially chatting with the world.  Now, for most topics, who cares.  But, if you are chatting about something highly sensitive and private, you could be screwed.  That’s because anyone can simply eavesdrop on that conversation.  I’m fairly certain that you don’t want that in those circumstances.  Let’s look at a few of your options for securing instant messenger conversations.

Insignia TV Won’t Turn On Fix

By | Computer Tech Support, TVs | No Comments

Last year, we purchased a cheaper Insignia flatscreen TV.  It suits us fine and the price was right.  But the other day, after a bunch of crazy storms, it wouldn’t turn on.  My son was in despair as he was ready to watch some fun TV.

Then I remembered that some other stuff I own would do this from time to time.  The fix is super easy: unplug the TV for a few minutes and then plug it back in and turn it on.  Seriously, ridiculous.

Toyota Sienna Door Panel Removal

By | automotive | No Comments

Don’t be like this guy!  I recently had an issue with my Toyota Sienna (2004) Window.  The window wouldn’t go down and so I thought at first that the window regulator may be toast.  But once I started looking at it, I found that the regulator was working okay.  You could hear it want to go.  So, the only way to really know what was going on was to remove the door panel and take a look.  If you are in the same boat, and beyond your warranty, you should take a look at it yourself.  It’s easier than you might think.

Kevin Karsch Develops Realistic Photo Insertion Technology

By | Emerging Technology | No Comments

photoshop_disasters

We have all seen horrendous photoshop edits or insertions that suck.  Kevin Karsch has developed some very cool technology to help with that.  What’s really heat about it is that it can insert objects.  But it does so with one photo and no additional scene information.  What follows are very cool examples of how they can compensate for lighting distortions, reflections, etc.

Flashback Mac Malware Trojan

By | Hacking, Security | No Comments

Well, well, well.  What do you know.  Mac gains market share and now the malware wars begin.  Apple scrambled to push out an update today that removes the most common variants of Flashback and stop automatic execution of Java applets.  The threat is very serious as it attempts to mimic actions on websites for passwords.  This can fool the user into giving up very sensitive information, which is sent to remote servers.  You can simply do a Mac update to obtain the latest fix.

However, if you are already infected, you should utilize Apple’s fix or F-Secure’s Flashback Removal Tool or Symantec Flashback Removal Tool.  If you are unsure, do yourself a favor and use those removal tools just to make sure!

Stay safe.

Toshiba-Excite-X10

Toshiba’s previous Excite LE and the Thrive tablets didnt exactly inspire people.  They were either too slow, too expensive, or too cheap feeling.  I know, that’s not an exhaustive list of woes, but you get the point.  Anyway, Toshiba made an attempt to listen, which is always good.  The Excite Tegra line is the result.  But will it excite?
