The tablet market is going into hyperdrive.  The announcement of Microsoft’s foray into the tablet market utilization with Windows 8 architecture made a few ripples.  It will be really interesting to see how this plays out.  To say Microsoft is playing catch up is an understatement, but they have a lot of money at their disposal.  Anyway, Samsung has announced an interesting product, the Samsung ATIV Smart PC which will fully run Windows 8 Pro and all your apps and programs.

Toshiba-Excite-X10

Toshiba’s previous Excite LE and the Thrive tablets didnt exactly inspire people.  They were either too slow, too expensive, or too cheap feeling.  I know, that’s not an exhaustive list of woes, but you get the point.  Anyway, Toshiba made an attempt to listen, which is always good.  The Excite Tegra line is the result.  But will it excite?

Asus has a knack for creating devices that are really nice for a good price.  The Eee Pad Transformer Prime is yet another example of that.  I do hate their names though.

crunchletOkay, so they didn’t name it the Crunchlet.  I’ve seen Crunch Pad, but I didn’t love that name.  Sorry if that is the designated name.  Until I see otherwise, I’ll call it the Crunchlet.  In any case, Arrington and the folks over at Tech Crunch / Crunch Gear have done something that absolutely warms my heart.  They took a need/desire that no one was fulfilling and did it themselves.  The result is going to be an amazing tablet that is cheap, runs on Linux, and is super useful.  Prosumers, unite!

WebDT 360 Rugged Mobile Tablet PC

dt-360-tablet.jpg

If you are someone who wants an ultra-portable, rugged laptop, then the WebDT 360 could be exactly what you need. It sports an 8.4 inch touch display with optional glare resistant screen. And it features a lot of extras that make it stand out. It has no running fan. I’m assuming that it has a coil cooling system. And the WebDT 360 utilizes flash for the hard, with capacities up to 8GB. This allows the unit to survive drops up to four feet off the ground. And for those in rugged conditions, it also sports bumber guards. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the fingerprint authentication. Just about everything anyone could need in a package that weighs just under 2 pounds.
