Now that Steve Jobs finished his keynote speech at the MacWorld Expo 2008 I have enough info to tell you what the new iPhone firmware 1.1.3 upgrade will bring. But first things first. Did you know that in 200 days from it’s launch there were 4 million iPhones sold around the world?
iPhone firmware 1.1.3 comes with a new hybrid view of the maps, a lot like Google Maps, single view sattelite imagery and street mapping plus location triangulation that uses close WiFi access points and GSM towers to determine your location. I’m not sure how precise it will be, but the feature is nice and from what Steve Jobs said you can set your “home” and it will make the route for you home. Don’t get drunk and forget taking your iPhone with you or you may not get home.
Another thing is the fact that you can now rent movies from iTunes and view them, has support for lyrics and can “manually” manage music instead of synchronizing.
The last two things on the new iPhone firmware 1.1.3 is SMS-ing a group of recipients, unlike only one as before and the fact that you can have up to 9 home screens, where the icons can now be rearranged.
The update will be free for the iPhone, but I can’t say the same for iPod Touch users that get the same firmware with the same functions and have to pay $20.
